Southcoast Health pays tribute to slain police sergeant

[Source: wpri.com] The inpatient pediatric unit at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford was renamed Tuesday in honor of a local police officer who was killed in the line of duty.

In a private ceremony, Southcoast Health unveiled a 17-foot-long art installation at the K-9 Sgt. Sean McNamee Gannon Pediatric Unit, paying tribute to the Yarmouth police officer and New Bedford native.

Gannon, 32, died in April after he was shot while serving a warrant in Barnstable. His K-9, Nero, was also shot but he survived his injuries.

“The tragic loss of K-9 Officer Sgt. Sean M. Gannon was deeply personal for many of us here at Southcoast,” Southcoast Health President and CEO Keith Hovan said.
